Book Character Pumpkin Contest

Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Dear Parents,

We want to bring a little literary fun to the Digital Literacy classroom during the month of October. We are inviting students to decorate a pumpkin or gourd to represent their favorite book character. It’s easy, fun and an activity everyone in the family can enjoy! Students may bring in a decorated pumpkin to Mrs. Pownall in Room 214 on Friday, October 25th and enter it into our contest. The pumpkins will be on displayed in Room 214 during the week of October 28th.  Students, family and friends can vote for their favorite pumpkin on my Digital Literacy website starting Wednesday, October 28th to October 30th.

Contest Rules:

  • You must use a pumpkin or gourd (any size, real or artificial)

  • Pumpkins or gourds may be painted, hot glued, colored, decorated with pipe cleaners, fabrics, beads, etc (be creative).

  • ABSOLUTELY NO CARVED PUMPKINS will be allowed. They rot, attract bugs and smell.

  • Pumpkins or gourds must represent a book character and a book should be displayed next to your pumpkin.

  • Do not write your name in a visible spot on the pumpkin (we want voting to be fair).

  • Winners will be announced on Thursday, October 31st during the Story Book Parade and prizes will be given at that time.

  • Students can take their pumpkin home after the school day on Friday, November 1st .

  • Any pumpkin left after November 4th will be discarded.
