Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at Charles W. Henry Elementary School! I hope that you made some memories with your family this summer. We are so happy to have you back at our school. Our mission is to create a nurturing environment in which children can grow socially, emotionally, and academically to achieve personal excellence.

To help prepare you for the school year, I’ve listed some reminders and updates in order to make your transition as smooth as possible.

Our school hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:09 p.m., students are considered late if they are not in line at 8:30 a.m. Please meet teachers in the yard and do not escort students directly to their classroom.

There is supervision in the schoolyard and cafeteria at 8:15 a.m. In good weather, all children will line up in the yard. In inclement weather, children meet inside – but not before 8:15 a.m. and then proceed to the auditorium (K-5) or the gym (6-8).

All students are encouraged to participate in our breakfast program. Breakfast is free and is served each morning from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the lunchroom. Breakfast will not be served in the classroom this year.

Henry School students dismiss at 12:09 p.m. for report card conferences. You can sign up for conferences on September 22 at Back to School Night.

As we embark upon a new school year, I encourage you to get involved in our school community. It takes a village to raise a child, and the Henry School is in need of your continuous participation and support. As we work together, the students will realize that they have the support required to be successful. I ask that everyone consider joining and supporting the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The PTA is an intricate part of the fabric that makes up our entire collaborative community.

Together, we can make a difference and I believe that we will have a very successful school year. Please feel free to contact me at any time on behalf of your children. Your suggestions and concerns are of paramount importance to me and I look forward to working with you.

Respectfully yours,

Fatima M. Rogers
